Title IX of the Education Amendments Act of 1972 is a federal law that states: "No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance."
The district Title IX coordinator works to ensure a safe, welcoming and harassment free environment for all School District of Oconee County students. The district coordinator oversees training for staff, provides support to students, and ensures prompt, thorough and impartial investigations and resolutions of all complaints related to discrimination, sexual misconduct and sexual harassment. The Title IX coordinator ensures that our district compliances with all federal and state laws prohibiting sex-based discrimination, sexual harassment and retaliation. In addition to a district coordinator, each school has at least one Title IX contact identify to assist with Title IX issues within the school.
The School District of Oconee County Board of Trustees has adopted Policy AC Non Discrimination/Equal Opportunity to establish the basic structure for conduct of district programs in compliance with applicable laws, including Title IX.
