New Directors Approved at Board Meeting

Chad Lusk Named Director of Hamilton Career Center

At the regular board meeting held on April 18, 2016, the Board of Trustees for the School District of Oconee County accepted recommendations from district administration for two director positions in the district.

The board accepted the recommendation for Chad Lusk to serve as the new Director of Hamilton Career Center. The effective date of this appointment is July 1, 2016. He replaces the current director, Mike Pearson, who is retiring.

Mr. Lusk has 14 years of experience as a teacher and administrator. He became the Assistant Principal at Westminster Elementary in 2011. He is currently the Principal at Westminster Elementary School, a position he has held since 2014. He holds a bachelor’s degree in education from Clemson University and a master’s degree in Education Leadership and Administration from Jones International University.

Chad said, “My five years at Westminster Elementary have been wonderful. I have had the privilege of working with exceptional children, great parents, and a faculty and staff that I will forever consider family. Westminster Elementary will always be home, and I treasure the time I have spent there. However, I am honored to have the opportunity to serve the district in a new role. I look forward to pursuing new relationships with industry, to strengthen the existing ones, and to ensure we provide our students with CATE experiences that will prepare them for the 21st century.”

Josh Shepard Named New Director of Technology

The school board also accepted the recommendation of school district administration for Josh Shepard to serve as the new Director of Technology for the district. Josh replaces Joe Rukat, the current Director of Technology, who is retiring.

Josh has a bachelor’s degree in education from Southern Wesleyan University and a master’s degree in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from the University of Texas.

He started with the district in 2012 as a teacher at Blue Ridge Elementary School. He originally became involved in technology “as a hobby,” he says. Since then, he has expanded his reach in that area. Josh is a certified Google trainer, one of few in the area, and has been a member of the South Carolina Association of School Administrators Technology Round Table. He accepted the position of Integration Specialist at the district office in 2015 to assist in the growing field of instructional technology.

Josh said, “I am very excited to be able to use my technology background along with my education experience and training to provide support and guidance for the district. I know I have a big job ahead of me, but I am ready to hit the ground running in order to do the best job possible for the School District of Oconee County.”

Steve Hanvey, Assistant Superintendent of Operations, says, “Our department is excited to add Josh Shepard as our new Director of Technology. Josh brings a unique perspective to the position as he has experience on both the instructional technology side as well as the infrastructure and network side. Josh has big shoes to fill with the retirement of Joe Rukat, but we are very confident in Josh’s ability and leadership skills. We look forward to working with him.”
